The Time is Now! How to Get Ready for the Slopes in Kopaonik: A Snowboarder's Guide for the 2025/2026 Season
The Snow is Not Far – Are Your Legs Ready? Okay, admit it. We are all checking the Kopaonik weather forecast, looking at accommodation prices, and counting the days until the 2025/2026 season. Last winter was wild, but if you want to get the most out of every lift ride and every turn, it's time to stop scrolling through snow photos and start with your actual snowboard preparation! Kopaonik is a fantastic mountain, but don't let your first day end up with you stuck in your room with muscle soreness. It's better to get tired on the slope than to have to quit halfway through the day. As your instructor, I tell you: the best equipment is always a well-prepared body. 1. Fitness: Your Body as a Shock Absorber (Not Just Legs!) Snowboarding is about much more than leg strength. In fact, it's more about endurance and balance. Here's what you need to focus on: Strong Core Muscles: This is your "shock absorber" and stabilizer. Without a strong core, every fall and bump is transferred directly to your back. Incorporate planks, Russian twists, and leg raises. Aim for endurance, not just power. Quads and Hamstrings (Endurance): Of course, legs. But we work them for endurance! Forget heavy lifting. Focus on exercises that mimic board movement: single-leg squats, box jumps, and Bulgarian split squats. Hold it for 2 minutes straight—you'll see how it pays off on Kopaonik. Balance is Key: Grab a stability ball, a balance board (or even a pillow!) and do squats or stand on one leg. Balancing directly reduces your chance of injury. 2. Gear Check: Inventory Before the Crowds Hit Was your board wet when you packed it last year? Are your bindings loose? Don't wait for December; Kopaonik won't wait for you. Board Service: Take your board for a quick service now. Get your base waxed and your edges sharpened. A prepared board glides faster and is easier to control—trust me, it makes learning and carving easier! Check Your Boots: Did you store them in a dry place? Try them on! If they've shrunk or are too loose, it's time for new ones. Uncomfortable boots = hell on the slopes. Helmet and Protection: If you fell on your helmet, replace it immediately! Don't skimp on head safety. A back protector is my personal must-have, regardless of your level. 3. Mental Prep and Lessons: Something New for the 2025/2026 Season! Want to progress? You can't just keep "leafing" (side-slipping) forever. Goal Setting: What do you want to master this 2025/2026 season? Carving? Jumps? Off-piste riding? If you want to achieve it, book lessons on time! Why an Instructor Matters: I often get people who "know everything," but they taught themselves bad habits. A good educator can correct mistakes you've been making for 5 years in just 2 hours. We are here not just to show you, but to explain why something is done, which is your goal, right? "Visualization": It sounds cheesy, but it works. Imagine yourself riding a perfect carve down Krčmar. Once your brain accepts it, your body will follow easily. See You on the Slopes! Time flies, and the snow will soon fall on Kopaonik. Start your exercises today! Dedicate yourself to preparation, and we instructors will make sure your 2025/2026 season is the best one yet.
